    Why use GC-UV instead of GC-TCD for main-component gas analysis?

    TCD has poor selectivity and sensitivity below ~0.1%. GC-UV resolves and quantifies down to ppm with confirmed identity from the UV spectrum.

    Does main-component quantitation require a full library?

    No. A single calibration plus a reference spectrum for the target is enough — the rest of the chromatogram does not need to be identified.
