Systematic study of the vapour-phase UV absorption spectra of a wide range of organic compounds in the 168–330 nm range, recorded on-line with capillary GC. The authors map characteristic absorption features to functional groups and demonstrate that GC-UV resolves structural ambiguities that defeat GC-MS for many isomeric and conjugated systems.
